If I Die Young by The Band Perry
This song, always has an effect on my emotions. Whether they are good or sad these emotions remind me of my Kristy.
The lyrics go:
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a, bed of roses
Sink me in the river, at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Uh oh, uh oh
Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colors, oh and
Life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby
The sharp knife of a short life, well
I've had just enough time
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The sharp knife of a short life, well
I've had just enough time
And I'll be wearing white, when I come into your kingdom
I'm as green as the ring on my little cold finger,
I've never known the lovin' of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand,
There's a boy here in town who says he'll love me forever,
Who would have thought forever could be severed by
The sharp knife of a short life, well,
I've had just enough time
So put on your best boys and I'll wear my pearls
What I never did is done
A penny for my thoughts, oh no, I'll sell them for a dollar
They're worth so much more after I'm a goner
And maybe then you'll hear the words I been singin'
Funny when you're dead how people start listenin'
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Uh oh (uh, oh)
The ballad of a dove (uh, oh)
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears, keep 'em in your pocket
Save them for a time when you're really gonna need them, oh
The sharp knife of a short life, well
I've had just enough time
So put on your best boys and I'll wear my pearls
Lay me down on a, bed of roses
Sink me in the river, at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Uh oh, uh oh

There are several lines that really affect me.
- Life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby: I remember how unfair I think it is that she was taken away from my family. But then I remember how it is especially unfair for my mother. I can't imagine the pain she must feel. - The sharp knife of a short life: This is exactly what it feels like when I think of how quickly and suddenly I lost her.
- well,I've had just enough time: I feel like she says this to me when I feel the sadness of knowing what she has missed out on. She was such a wonderful person and affected so many in a positive way that she accomplish a lot here on earth. Sometimes Kristy needs to remind me she has no regrets, she lived her life to the fullest.
- Gather up your tears, keep 'em in your pocket
Save them for a time when you're really gonna need them: This the line that affects me the most. I can easily and often do hear Kristy say this to me. I beleive that she is happy where she is and does not want me to be sad. I know she will always be concerned for my happiness.
I really miss my little sister. Kristy is a caring, thoughtful, fun, and beautiful girl. I cherish everything that reminds me of her. Kristy I Love You.
I read this and then heard the song on the radio later that day and it made me cry. Very touching post, Lindsey.
